DOCTOR FAUSTUS LIGHTS THE LIGHTS

Synopses

The thought-provoking "operetta" of American modernist writer Gertrude Stein, presents us with the theme "Faust" – the man who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for the invention of the electric light. Written in the period in which it deployed the public electric lighting, the text presents us with the "electric light" as a metaphor of knowledge and technology in the contemporary world. This light becomes an attribute of Mephisto, because technology is being disputed and create an arena to the power dispute.
