THE GODS ARE POUNDING MY HEAD

THE GODS ARE POUNDING MY HEAD

The text by Richard Foreman, an acclaimed American playwright in avant-garde and performance theater, brings two rival lumberjacks, who crush everything they see ahead, hoping that cosmic truth will replace the banality of their everyday lives. A beautiful woman initiates them into the mysteries of sex, death, and resurrection.

The play features a series of spiritual exercises that challenge the erotic fascination and the false promises of wisdom and power. In this version, with Brazilian outlines, the woodcutter axes gain the help of chainsaws: an allusion to the current context of deforestation in Amazonia, expanding the dimension of the work to an approach to political-social problems in the country. The virtual scenario includes fragments of an Amazon ravaged by the greed of the chainsaw and its consequences for the planet.
